Proposal Process

Every year, we build the Epic Skill Swap schedule through a participatory process. You will be able to request workshops that you would like to take and propose workshops that you would like to teach through our skill submission website. This year, Epic Skill Swap will take place online.  We're excited to see your virtual faces!  In light of the new ESS format, we would love any and all community-based virtual activities, in addition to traditional skill-building workshops.  Phase I: Submit your workshops!

  • The workshop submission site opens March 1, 2020.
  • To submit a workshop or activity you want to lead, click on “Propose a Workshop.” (If you have not already done so, read our page of resources for workshop leaders, including ideas for successfully faciliting online workshops.
  • If you want to learn how to do something and you’re hoping others can teach you, click “Request a Workshop.”
  • If you don’t already have an account, you’ll be prompted to create a username (or you can log in with Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to submit your idea. (Yay! Anti-spam protection!)
  • Proposal submission closes at 11:59pm on Saturday, May 23rd.  Since participants may need extra time this year to prepare for workshops, and since voting happens concurrently, please submit proposals as early as you are able.

Phase II: Voting!

  • As proposals are being submitted, you may vote on what you are interested in participating in. Go to skills.epicskillswap.org to see the workshops that have been proposed so far.
  • Everyone (even those who did not propose a workshop) can vote on the skills they'd like to see offered at this year’s Swap.  You may vote for as many as you like!
  • Note: this step is not a popularity contest—in the past, we have had space for everyone who proposed a workshop to teach one. We use the voting results to plan the schedule and gauge the relative interest in multiple workshops if someone proposes more than one.
  • Voting will also close at the end of  Saturday, May 23rd.

Phase III: Building the schedule!

  • We will be in touch with workshop leaders to confirm your participation. If you proposed more than one, we’ll give you a sense of which garnered more interest.
  • The schedule will be posted on Friday, May 29th. And then we’ll all do happy dances!
  • If you missed the submission process, it will still be possible to add workshops during the event.
